If you have any questions, use the associated linked keywords. ALL MAINTENANCE APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE. NCC no longer accepts mail-in applications.
NCC policies and reminders
- Continuing Competency Assessment—if you haven't taken Stage 1 assessment, you should do so before you maintain. Once you have submitted your maintenance application you will be in Stage 2 and the orientation Stage 1 will no longer be available to you.
- If filing on your last day—you must submit your application by midnight central standard time.
- All Continuing Education must be in your certification specialty area. Applications without the proper CE will be deemed incomplete.
- All CE activities must be coded to a content category within your specialty. Failure to do so will result in your application being deemed incomplete.
- If your application is incomplete for any reason, it will be returned and you will be subject to $10 reprocessing fee. No additional time will be given to correct an incomplete application.
- For NCC Self Assessment module users or Pretest participant, you must code your CE 26 and enter these activities first to qualify for the discount. If you fail to do so, a refund for the differential fee amount will not be made. These activities should be precoded by the system in most cases in the online maintenance application.
- There are no refunds for any maintenance, reinstatement or extension fees.
- Online submission doesn't automatically update your maintenance. Your application must be reviewed. Applications can take up to four weeks to complete the review process depending on volume of applications received.
Before you access the application
- Gather all of your required information; license number and expiration date, CE documentation and payment method (MasterCard, VISA, American Express or e-check)
- You will need 45 hours of CE activities for core certifications and 15 hours of CE for certificates of added qualification.
- All CE activities must be assigned a specialty code within the application—use the Is my CE Acceptable tool to look these codes up.
- If using CE activities such as preceptorship, authorship or presenter -- along with the specialty code, you will need the program/activity name, date of program, number or hour and sponsoring or accrediting agency. (see How do I list my CE activities)
- Block out enough time to complete the process in one session. The application will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. But, there is no time limit.
- You do not need to submit copies of your Continuing Education documentation, but will need to produce same if you are audited.
- You can go in and out of your online maintenance application as long as you don't submit your application.
During the application
- Once you log in, most of your information will be pre-entered eliminating your having to enter the information including certifications and certificates of added qualification you hold.
- Alert messages will let you know if you fail to enter required information or if you entered expired information, i.e., license, etc, or activities that fall outside your current period of certification.
- All CE activities must be coded to your specialty, select a code by clicking on the button next to each entered activity—do not put specialty codes in the title or accreditation information. There is a more information link on the application if you need further information about coding.
- For NCC Self Assessment users or Pretest participants—online modules will appear automatically on the application.
- Hard copy modules with paper test submission will need to be entered and coded to 26 in some cases. See above.
- Enter your NCC Self Assessment module or pretest (coded to 26) FIRST to take advantage of offered discounts, because the application will automatically redirected to the payment page after the required amount of CE is entered.
- You will be able to review all entered information including your listed CE prior to submitting the application.
After application submission
- You will receive an email confirmation of your application as well as a receipt.
- You will be able to recreate your application and receipt at any time in the "your account" section.
- Once your application has been approved, you will be notified by mail and you will be able to download your maintenance card directly from the website in the "your certifications" under your account section.
- To track when you application is approved, go to your account and see if your certificate is updated. It will appear here first.
- Once your application is approved, you can send complimentary press releases about your achievement of maintenance to anyone you desire. The press release is not an indication that your application is approved.
Maintenance Pre-approval
« Back to certification maintenance
If you are unsure that your continuing education activities will meet your NCC maintenance requirements, you can ask NCC to pre-approve your CE activities. You can submit your educational activities and NCC will review them , indicate if they are applicable to maintenance and will assign the appropriate specialty code to each activity you submit. Any approved CE activity will be automatically posted to your online maintenance application on the NCC website with the appropriate specialty code so you won't have to re-enter them at the time you maintain.
DO NOT LIST NCC SELF ASSESSMENT MODULES. These are already in your online maintenance application appropriately specialty coded.
General CE is not applicable, such as fire safety, use of restraints or any topic that would be expected of any nurse regardless of specialty.
How it works:
- You complete the online form which will ask you for the name of the program, the date of the CE program, number of hours awarded and who accredited the program/activity
- The form will be reviewed by NCC
- You will receive an email advising you of the status of each CE activity submitted and its specialty code.
- Approved activities will be added to your online maintenance application
- If the program contains a number of sessions (for example AWHONN or NANN national meeting) list each session attended separately.
- If the program title is non-specific, (i. e. Fundamentals of Nursing), include topics covered in the title section e.g. Fundamentals of Nursing relating to Pregnancy Complications
- If you have questions about your maintenance preapproval report, contact info@nccnet.org.
- Preapproval of CE is not required and should be used only if you decide you do not wish to assign the code yourself.
The nonrefundable preapproval maintenance fee is $15.
