Technical requirements and troubleshooting
Computer requirements
« Back to continuing competency
- The Specialty Assessment Evaluation requires that you use a PC computer or a mac running Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or 7; with either Internet Explorer (6 or greater) or Mozilla Firefox 3+, Safari 5+ or Google Chrome.
- If your computer does not meet these system requirements, you will need to find a computer that does. There is no paper and pencil test.
- Internet Explorer is our preferred and recommended browser. You may use Firefox, but will have to install the most recent updates along with the .NET 2.0 plug in, which will require a restart of the computer. Some users have been having trouble with the install due to security settings within FireFox that prevent a Web based installation of the .NET 2.0 plug-in.
- Be aware that if you take the assessment from your workplace, you may encounter difficulty because many workplace systems have firewalls or other security features that may interfere with access.
- Make sure any spam filters are disabled.
- Remember cookies must be enabled on your computer and filters may interfere with launching the assessment so disabled them if you encounter a launch problem.

I'm getting a Missing Files message
This can occur for Firefox users. If you get a message regarding missing files, this means it is loading the launching files to your download files and you should switch to Internet Explorer to bypass this issue.
When I select an answer, the program won't accept it.
The easiest way to resolve this is to click on the review button and select the answer from the review mode. Then resume the assessment in the test or review format.
Can I take the assessment on a Mac?
Yes, you can take on a Mac.
