Standard Setting Procedures

NCC uses an objective standard setting procedure to determine the standard (cut-score) for passing the certification and subspecialty examinations.

The content team plays an essential role in this procedure. Based on the individual content team member expertise and evaluation of content, each test question is judged as being essential or not essential for practice.

The difficulty of the aggregate questions designated as essential by all content team members will identify the passing standard for the examination. This is also done in conjunction with some statistical procedures to insure psychometric soundness to the process.
