Gender-related Terminology

NCC is committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout our certification policies and processes. NCC acknowledges the diverse gender identities of the patient populations that present for care to NCC certified professionals. It is the goal of NCC to represent gender-inclusive language in NCC certification and continuing education products and services.  NCC’s offerings will include references to all types of gender identities recognizing that the use of specific terminology and references should be determined by patient preference. Terminology and references will be reviewed periodically to ensure the language is consistent with the prevailing consensus in obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal health care communities.  When using third-party references and documents, NCC will use the gender-related terminology adopted by authors and researchers.
