Change your Testing Date or Exam Category

« Back to certification

CHANGE REQUESTS: If you can't take the exam as scheduled, need to test outside the current eligibility window, missed the scheduled testing date, or need to take a different exam, you can request a change. A change request can be submitted to change either the 90-day eligibility window or the exam category, provided the requirements below are met.

All change requests must be approved by NCC, and candidates may be required to provide additional information. There will be no refund of original examination fees or Change Request fees, even if you decide to keep your original exam date. Candidates who fail to take the examination under a change option must reapply with full fees.

Submit a non-refundable $125 fee with the online Change Request Form. Requests must be made using the online NCC Change Request Form and should be done from the link in your account after signing in. Changes requested in any other format will not be accepted.

There are 3 Options for making a change to the eligibility window, method of testing, or exam category:

Option 1 — Reschedule Within Your Original Window

Reschedule your testing date

NO FEE

If you're testing at a Test Center (TC) or using Live Remote Proctoring (LRP), you can change your method of testing (TC or LRP) or the testing date to another date within your original 90-day eligibility window — no change request form or fee is required, provided you meet these requirements:

Requirement

Detail

Time remaining

At least 4 business days left in your 90-day eligibility window

Timing

The change must be made at least 4 business days before your scheduled test date

Availability

Confirm a test center or remote proctoring slot is available before canceling your existing appointment. If you cancel a test date or method of testing and cannot get an appointment in the original 90-day window, the only option will be a change request.

How to reschedule:

  • Log in to your NCC account and go to Certifications.
  • Click "Schedule or Launch Exam."
  • Click "Manage" to cancel or reschedule the appointment.

Option 2 — Change Your Eligibility Window

Use this option if you missed your exam or cannot reschedule within your current 90-day window for any reason.

  • Deadline: The change request and fee must be submitted within one calendar year from the first date of your original assigned eligibility window.
  • Before you submit: If you have an exam date scheduled, you must cancel it with PSI first (or via "Schedule or Launch Exam" in your account) before submitting a change request. If you're unable to cancel for any reason, wait until your testing date has passed before submitting the change request.
  • Submission: Submit a change Request Form and a non-refundable payment of $125.00 is required. The change request can be found after signing into your account. One change is allowed through the change request process.
  • There is no refund for any reason, even if you decide to take the exam as previously scheduled or in the original eligibility window.

Option 3 — Change Your Exam Category

Examination categories can only be changed between subspecialty exams or to a subspecialty exam that the candidate is eligible for, as follows:

Changes marked "not allowed" require a brand-new application instead of a change request.

  • Deadline: The request must be submitted at least 30 days before the end of your original 90-day testing window. After this point, no new testing window is provided. You will need to test during the remainder of the original window
  • You must ensure you are eligible for the new subspecialty exam category, and additional documentation may be required. Time spent reviewing eligibility for the new category still counts toward your original 90-day window.
  • There is no refund of the price difference when changing from a Core exam to a subspecialty exam
  • Submission: Submit a Change Request Form, and a non-refundable payment of $125.00 is required. The change request can be found after signing into your account. One change is allowed through the change request process.

Examinees must take the exam for which they were determined eligible. No changes are permitted on examination day. If a candidate knowingly or unknowingly takes a different exam, it will not be scored, no refunds will be issued, and standard reapplication fees will apply.
