Spotlight on NCC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification - Magnet™ approved! October 31, 2023

NCC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC®) certification is the largest NCCA accredited, and Magnet™ approved certification for NIC nurses.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC®) certification focuses on the care of the high-risk neonate. It demonstrates the specialty knowledge of Neonatal ICU nurses who provide care to acutely and critically ill neonatal patients and their families within an intensive care environment.

This core nursing certification is for neonatal nurses who identify life-threatening conditions in the high-risk neonate, perform specialized assessments including physical examination, gestational age assessment and neurobehavioral assessment, and understand neonatal pathophysiology to initiate appropriate early intervention. And who develop an individualized plan of care for the maintenance, treatment and promotion of health for the high-risk neonate and family unit during hospitalization and at discharge.

This exam encompasses knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition, and behavioral psychology needed to assess the neonate and differentiate abnormal from normal. It also covers the knowledge needed to implement diagnostic, therapeutic and educational plans in collaboration with other health care providers to provide direct care for the high-risk neonate and family.
