Founding Leader of NCC and Pioneer in Nursing Certification November 1, 2023

It is with sadness that NCC announces the passing of Ruth S. Young, RN, BSN, one of the founders of NCC at age 91.   Ruth Young as Executive Director of NAACOG (now AWHONN) was instrumental in the establishment of the ANA-MCH/NCC Joint Certification Program, the precursor program to today’s certification program.  The program ran from 1976 to 1979 and certified 441 nurses. Ms. Young served on the first NCC Board of Directors and played a significant role in the Joint Committee which was the governing entity for the Joint Program with ANA.  As one of the founding leaders and pioneers of nursing certification, her many contributions have left a legacy of excellence that still impacts the current NCC certification program today.  She is survived by her son, Todd.  Her husband Marc died in 2010.   A full obituary can be accessed from the link below.
