Dr. Bissinger joins NCC from the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Nursing where she held the positions of the Associate Dean of Academics and Professor. Dr. Bissinger also served as NCC President from 2010-2013 and brings to the Executive Director position extensive knowledge of NCC and its activities. She has been active nationally regarding critical issues impacting nurses and advanced practice nurses.
"This is an exciting opportunity and provides a national platform to continue the work on perinatal competencies and certification” said Dr. Bissinger. “My goal is to continue to assist the health care team to improve quality outcomes and safety through lifelong learning, a commitment to specialty certification and a collaborative model of interprofessional practice that insures our patients and their families that we provide evidence-based care at the highest level.”
Dr. Bissinger replaces Betty Burns, CAE, who has been with the organization since its inception in 1975 and Executive Director since 1981. She will remain with the organization in a new role of Chief Executive Advisor and will continue to work on the organization's move to an all digital platform and future planning for the organization. Burns is also President of HAB Associates, Inc., the management firm that coordinates NCC administration.
Burns stated that "she is looking forward to working with Dr. Bissinger on the transition of the Executive Director position and knows that NCC will be in very capable hands. Dr. Bissinger brings an enthusiasm, creativity and proven leadership to the Executive Director role and will continue the growth of the organization with new exciting certification endeavors and initiatives that will benefit the NCC constituency and all the women, families and neonates they serve."
NCC wishes to welcome Dr. Bissinger to her new role and looks forward to long partnership.
